Tips for Cleaning Your Porsche 911
Behind each Porsche 911 is a story. It’s a story of design and dedication to quality. From its Italian leather seats to its perfect weight distribution, your 911 is the stuff dreams are made of. It’s time to treat it that way. You may be able to rub down other cars with a paper towel and warm soapy water, but your Porsche deserves more than that. Your 911 is built to withstand the test of time. With proper care and cleaning, you can ensure that it stays looking sleek and shiny.
Undercarriage and Wheels
It’s always best to clean the undercarriage and wheels of your Porsche first. Because they’re typically the dirtiest part of the vehicle, washing them first prevents grime from spreading to other parts of the car while you’re cleaning it. Use a hose to remove any salt, dirt, and debris from the undercarriage of your Porsche. Then, move on to the wheels. Hose off the rims and tires and use a cleaner if needed. Depending on how dirty your tires are, you may need to use a cloth to completely remove the debris from inside the wheel arches.
Once your undercarriage and wheels are clean, you can move on to washing the exterior of your car. Porsche has carefully created signature paint colors for the exterior of their vehicles. Whether your 911’s exterior is racing yellow or carmine red, there are a few ways you can keep the paint looking smudge-free and fresh. First and foremost, don’t use warm water when washing your Porsche. While it may seem like the easiest way to remove dust and dirt, warm water will eventually damage the body paint of your vehicle. Porsches are different than other cars. They’re hand painted to ensure the evenness of the coat. A coat of clear lacquer has been applied to the exterior of your car to protect the color of the paint. Warm water can eventually destroy these layers, costing you a fortune to repair. Use cold water to keep your 911’s paint in optimum condition.
The soap that you use on your Porsche should be free of harsh chemicals. It’s a good idea to look for a car washing soap that’s gentle on the paint. Avoid any soaps with bleach, ammonia, or other chemicals that could strip the finish on your car. Natural soaps are a great choice. To use the soap, pour the appointed amount into a bucket of cool water. Then, use a clean sponge or soft cloth. Gently rub the sponge in a circular motion, removing any dirt. Rinse and repeat as needed.
After your 911 has been cleaned, give it a pat down treatment. Allowing your Porsche to dry naturally will leave streaks and marks. Instead, invest in a high-quality towel that will absorb the excess water. Instead of rubbing the water spots, simply pat it dry. You’re then ready to apply a polish and wax. Before doing so, double check with your Porsche dealer to determine which product is best for the paint of your vehicle.
The leather seats inside of your Porsche 911 are nothing short of a masterpiece. This fine Italian leather requires maintenance to prevent cracking, sun damage, and fading. Before you begin cleaning the leather interior of your car, wipe down and vacuum the rest of the vehicle. Doing this beforehand prevents dust and other debris from interfering with the leather cleaning. Don’t forget to vacuum the seats themselves.
Because your seats were designed using nothing but the highest quality of leather, it’s important that you treat them with a quality leather treatment. A water-based cleaner is typically best as it won’t wear down the stitching in the seats. The solution that you apply to your seats should be specifically made for cleaning the leather interior of cars. Apply the leather cleaner to a clean, microfiber towel and rub gently into the seats. Once the cleaner has completely dried, apply a conditioner. Now that the cleaner has completely removed any filth that’s accumulated on your seats, a conditioner can treat and moisturize the leather. Massage the conditioner into the seats using a clean cloth, further protecting your leather from the harmful rays of the sun.
While there’s no set rule as to how often you should wash your Porsche, give it a good washing anytime it begins to look dirty. Doing so will prevent the buildup of dust and grime.
